Wedding photography

In July I was honoured to be able to photograph the wedding of Becky and Jamie.  Their wedding was at the lovely Hilton Avisford Park Hotel near Arundel, West Sussex, set in amazing gardens and with a golf course on site.  The day of the wedding was absolutely stunning, the sun shone the entire time.

I was lucky enough to be able to shoot both bridal preparations and groom preparations as well as both parties stayed at the hotel the night before.

Both Becky and Jamie looked amazing on the day, and made my job so easy.  You can really see how much in love these guys are, and how much the day meant to both them and their family and friends too.

Here are a few of the images we got from the day.

I wish you both all the very best in your future together, may it bring you much luck, health and happiness.

It is an honour to be able to record the most special day in a couple’s life,  I am always humbled and often moved by the emotion of the day.

If you would like me to cover your wedding day, please contact me using the contact form, all weddings are quoted on a case by case basis as I believe that your wedding photography should be as individual as you are as a couple. I never work from a set list of what I provide as I prefer to tailor to your exact needs.

October saw me covering the most amazing wedding.  The wedding of Rachel and Thomas, at the guildhall in Chichester.  This is a new venue for 2016, which has now been approved for weddings.  The building itself is stunning, and Rachel and Thomas put in so much effort into the planning and overall decorations and feel for the day.  This was an autumn and halloween themed wedding, and the day itself was picture perfect for autumn!

Thank you for reading my blog.

As we go in to 2017, I sit here wondering if any of you were proposed to over the Christmas and New Year period?

‘Yes’ you say?

Firstly, congratulations!

Secondly, I bet you have thought about what you will need to plan for your wedding for half of your adult life.  I thought it might be handy to compile a little list of things that you might need to remember.

  1.  Check out your suppliers.  Investigate all your local wedding suppliers and find the right ones for you.  This may not be the cheapest (or most expensive), but those whose work is in a style that you like and that you get on with on a personal level as well.  For example – most of the people involved in your actual wedding will also have a lot of time being in contact with you before, on the day, and after the day.  So it helps to know that you gel before you start.
  2. Make sure you ask for a few quotes from different suppliers.
  3. Check they are available on the date of your wedding, and also what you need to do to be able to book in with them.  For me to photograph your wedding I would be asking for 50% of the full cost at the time of booking to reserve your date in my diary.  Also check when they will be requiring the balance of the bill paid, for me this is 4 weeks before your wedding date.
  4. Ensure that all suppliers have the relevant insurance in place. This will cover you in the event that something goes wrong (which of course rarely happens, but should be planned for just in case).
  5. Write everything down! A diary or folder which will contain all of the contact info and amounts paid to your suppliers is a fab idea, it will help you keep track of what you have done already and what you still have to do. It could also save you if you need to contact a supplier and have lost a business card!

These are just a few of the ideas that might help with planning your big day, and ease the pressure on the planning and pulling it all together.

Stay tuned for more ideas over the coming weeks!

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. You have planned this day for months, maybe even years! You have planned everything from what every member of the bridal party is wearing to what you will all be eating and what your wedding favours are.

We all hope for lovely weather, and that everything runs smoothly. However, with a little bit of extra planning you can be sure that your day will be amazing even if it should pour with rain!

Here are my top ten tips for things you might like to remember for your wedding day that you might not have thought of, but might help if something like the weather isn’t as nice as you hoped.

  1. Bring umbrellas for the bridal party! If it should rain, and you would like outdoors photos, or even just to get you to the venue dry.  It is always worth planning a nice umbrella that will look good with your outfits.
  2. If you would like outdoors photos in the rain, also consider buying some wellies as this will save your precious wedding shoes. Maybe you could coordinate the colour with your umbrella!
  3. Make sure someone in the bridal party and/or grooms party has a copy of mobile numbers for your wedding suppliers to hand.  This is vital, should something unexpected happen and you need to contact them!
  4. Keep a small bag ready that has any top up makeup/tissues/cash just in case you need it.
  5. If you want a gorgeous confetti shot after your ceremony,   either buy some to give out, or make sure that you ask your guests to bring some (bubbles can also work well if you have younger children at your wedding).
  6. Remember to take your time at all points of your wedding, not only will this help with your nerves, and keep you calmer, it will also help your photographer catch those important moments for you.
  7. If the day looks like it might be sunny, it is a good idea to pop on some sun screen before you put your wedding clothes on, you will likely be outside for some of the time during the day and sun screen will help you not get sun burn.
  8. Now for the obvious one! The rings! Make sure the person responsible for them has them tucked away safely.  Thankfully this has not been a problem at any f the weddings I have photographed yet!
  9. Do not forget to eat and drink yourself.  If you want to enjoy your day you will need to make sure you eat and drink to keep yourself going.
  10. Lastly, and one of the most important is to enjoy your day.  It will be a whirlwind, so make sure that you enjoy as much of it as you can. If things go wrong, do not worry! Very few weddings go without a small hitch or two, but these are what make your day, your day, everything will work out (it always does).  Relax, take your day as it comes knowing that you have done everything you can to make it just perfect (hitches and all).

Finally, and not on my list is breathe! Don’t forget to breathe and enjoy what will be the most special day of your life!

I hope this blog post has helped a few of you.

So, you are getting married. Firstly congratulations! This is an amazing time in your life, full of excitement and love.  It is, however, very easy to get carried away with everything and forget some of the important things you might need to ask the people you are employing.

PNGOY5A6878-3

You likely have a whole host of different companies or individuals who you are employing to help your day be perfect and run without a hitch.  Hopefully one of these people will be your wedding photographer (why you should definitely have a wedding photographer is something I will cover another time).

When you are planning your day, your photographer will likely be one of the people you will want to arrange quite early (as we do get booked up quite quickly).  When you are looking around here are my top 10 things to ask/find out about your potential photographer.

wedding collage with boarder

  1. Can you see sample wedding photos they have taken? This is very important as it is the only way you will be able to see their work in print, and ensure that you like their style.
  2. Can you meet them for a free wedding consultation? It is really important that you meet to have a chat and see if you like your wedding photographer, you will spend a long time with them on your wedding day, and if you do not like the way they work or their personality, this can make it uncomfortable.
  3. Are they insured?  All wedding photographers should have special wedding indemnity insurance, this covers them in the event of any unexpected problems.  Should their equipment have a total failure, should a memory card not work when trying to retrieve the images, should they have an accident or medical emergency just before the wedding.
  4. How much is your first payment for their services?  When you sign their contract you will likely be charged a percentage of your bill, so that they can hold your date in their diary.  For me this is 50%, but all photographers ask for different amounts to do this.
  5. When will the remainder of the price of your photography need to be paid by?  This will again vary from photographer to photographer.  With me this is 4 weeks before the date of your wedding.
    JPGIMG_1818
  6. Are any monies you have paid  refundable or not?  There may be a set time where you may get all or some of the money paid back should you wish to cancel.  Most will keep a percentage or the full amount once a certain time before the wedding passes as they would have no chance of rebooking another couple in for the date.
  7. What is included in the price of your wedding photography? Are there any photobooks or prints included? Or will you be receiving all the edited images on disc or USB? If you have a preference for disc or USB now would be the time to ask, some new technology does not have disc readers, in this case you are better off with a USB!
  8. Do you bring spare equipment on the day?  Any wedding photographer who is worth employing will always say yes to this! We all hope that nothing will happen to any item of equipment on the day, but things can and do happen! I always shoot with at least 2 cameras, and I have a selection of lenses plus 2 flash units, this means that should anything fail I have a backup.  And YES! It has happened to me! One of my two cameras has failed half way through a wedding before! However, having my back up camera with me meant that I was able to carry on seamlessly and the bride and groom were none the wiser (which is very important as any extra stress on the day is not what anyone wants).
  9. Can you work from a list of photos that we want?  Yes, most photographers will ask you if you have a set list of shots that you would like.  Group shots are usually the ones people give us lists for. Some couples like a ‘go with the flow’ feel to the group shots and take the day as it comes, others like to know that we are getting specific shots, both ways are completely fine and catered for.
  10. Do you backup the photos of our wedding?  This is something which should be standard.  As soon as I get home from a wedding I get all the images off the memory cards, and on to our external hard drives, these are then backed up to another external hard drive as well, and I will keep the images on the memory cards (usually) until I have fully edited all your images (I would rather be paranoid and ensure your images are safe, than risk losing a single one of them!)

I hope this post helps anyone who is in the planning stages of their wedding.  The most important thing you can do is to ask as many questions as you need, no questions are silly or will be laughed at, if it is important to you, then it should also be important to your photographer.Good luck with your wedding and most of all, have fun in the process! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Hi!

At the end of last year I was booked to photograph a wedding at the gorgeous Bailiffscourt hotel and spa. The bride’s Mum booked me to cover their gorgeous Christmas wedding because the bride and groom now live in Australia!! They made their trip over to the UK to see family and celebrate their wedding. The wonderful Christmas theme wedding cake was made by Cake Magic.

The day was just perfect in every way, we even managed to avoid any rain.

Here are a few photos from their day.

At the end of August I attended Debbie and Lukes wedding at the lovely location of Bracklesham barn in West Sussex, a few miles south of Chichester.  They had the most gorgeous day for their wedding.

Debbie and Luke involved the whole family in their service, the children from the families even did a reading which kept everyone entertained. This was the second wedding of the summer which served fish and chips for their meal, followed by an ice cream van serving their dessert.  They chose a beach theme for the wedding, and made their own table centre pieces. They also put up their own photobooth for the evening guests to take photos in with an ipad.

Although the ceremony ran a little late (due to some very bad traffic on the morning) we managed to nip away to the beach for some photos just of the couple between the ceremony and reception.

Here are a few photos from their day, which was full of love and happiness.

In August I attended the wedding celebration of the lovely Georgina and James. They chose to have their wedding celebration at Boxgrove Village hall. This is a lovely light and airy village hall, which was perfect for the celebration they had planned. It is also very handy for bride and groom shots as Boxgrove Priory is just across the road, the ruins are just lovely for some personal quiet time photos between the service and reception.

Georgina and James had planned every detail about the day, including all the things that they like. The reception tables were completed with bottles of Coca Cola and Tunnocks Teacakes! There was a sweetie table so the guests could help themselves, and they even provided sun cream/sun glasses/fans and flip flops, always thinking of their guests comfort.  The meal was provided by a fish and chip van, who also provided the pudding of doughnuts and ice cream.

I hope you enjoy looking at some of their photos.

At the beginning of August I attended the wedding celebration of Charlotte and Paul. I first met this lovely couple and their family last year when I covered their registry office ceremony in Chichester. This year they decided to have a big party so all their friends and family could celebrate with them.  They chose the stunning Southend Barns as their venue, it is a gorgeous place and was perfect for their informal celebration. The weather was very kind to them (always a relief!) and to top off the day they had a visit from a Delorean car!

I hope you enjoy looking at some of the photos from their day.
